...is the worst film I've ever seen in my entire life. Bleak, sick, disgustingand horrible on every level, and the closest I've ever come to being sick watching a film (second to Henry stabbing the baby/worm in Eraserhead... except that's a brilliant film). And this is coming from someone who thinks Manhunt is the best videogame ever. Is there something wrong with me? Or (more likely) something wrong with Eli Roth?
hmmm....i thought the first one was more brutal, strangely enough. neither is particularly great, though.
the only shit i can't stomach in movies is when real animals are killed (cannibal holocaust, cannibal ferox, etc) and graphic rape scenes (i spit on your grave, irreversible). otherwise, you can show me just about anything without it affecting me much.
speaking of animals in movies --- has anyone ever noticed that it seems like the only reason an animal is introduced in a horror/suspense film is so it can get killed later on? what the fuck is up with that? killing an animal is not entertainment and just makes me want to murder the director/writers/producers...

sorry i thought the first one was shit enough so that i wasn't even tempted to see the second one. the acting was so over done in the first one, maybe it was because i was in film college at the time with the relentless over analyzation they make you do to suck the fun dry from every fim EVER!!!
SNS, if you want a good old scary film watch 'Prince of Darkness'

Prince of Darkness rocks - genuinely creepy atmosphere.
Truth be told though, "horror" films don't really scare me at all... The devil, zombies, serial killers, yadda yadda yadda, whatever.
The films that properly give me nightmares - anything to do with nuclear armageddon (the more realistically portrayed, the worse it is).
I'd recommend *not* watching the following:
The War Game
Watch it on google video
not to be confused with War Games, the 80s teen film.
Threads
Watch it on google video
On The Beach
Fail Safe
OK, I'll stop there, I'm starting to scare the shit out of myself again.

Well, to be honest, there's something wrong with the world right now, in as much as we see the "enemies of civilisation" beheading their hostages, and the "good guys" torturing people in the name of security. It's hardly surprising that horror lately has started to reflect that mood, moving from ideas of otherness and threat in the 50s (when communism was still a halloween horror), to the monster-killer-men of the 70s and 80s (when serial killers got their share of media attention), to basic ideas of body-pain and flesh-destruction.

Also, on a similar end of the world note, not exactly a horror film, or a big explosion apocalyptic thing (actually kinda romantic and nice in a weird way), but I still couldn't sleep for a long time after seeing it. Definitely recommended.
