i need some advice pretty quick. the earphone port on my laptop is fucked so i need to buy a USB external sound card to pay a gig. i have no idea what i should be looking for in one though. there seem to be 2 very different types....a tiny memory stick type one with just an audio in/out & a pretty hefty looking one with all sorts of other connections. neither of them are expensive, but if anyone can give me some advice on what i should go for then i'd appreciate it.

the simple one should suffice if all you're looking to do is replace the 1/8" port ---- are you just DJing your shit or doing some intense on-the-fly manipulation  of sound?

in my experience, all you need is an 1/8" headphone jack, a 1/4" patch cord adaptor and a lot of beer. the rest falls into place.

 

although, lots of plugs/inputs/high-tech gadgetry are always fun and useful in a pinch if the club is lacking in the necessary hookups...

i wouldn't call my set dj-ing, but im not making improvised noise either. (maybe someday) basically just pressing play and spazzing out in stupid clothes.

anyway, after further inspection im pretty sure the only one i can buy in dublin is the big one for 25euro. which isn't too bad.
i think we call patch cords something else here, but i get what you mean.
