http://www.makeamixa.com/These are cool, great for making the box and labels etc. but a bit expensive to release something on really.

A USB-format release would be something quite special. It's an idea I've been toying with, but when you consider that a CDr is pennies, and USB sticks start at a tenner each, it does lose some appeal.

Mind you, that Mixa thing's not a bad idea. Overpriced though, obviously.

I happened to see the front page of a USA Today where Matchbox 20 talked about doing a USB album.  I at least like Keane better than them.  :p

Shriekback did it in 2005 - there was a limited edition of their Cormorant CD that was packagd as a USB stick in the shape of a cormorant egg in a wooden box.

Fuck all that shite. Retro-gimmicky bollocks for twats with too much money and not enough sense. Who the fuck would buy it that would be into Digital Vomit stuff anyway? Why not just release cassettes instead of flash drives that look like them? Lots of people in Poland, Latvia, Estonia and other former communist countries don't even have CD players, never mind computers. You'd be appealling to a largely untapped market.

Fuck all that shite.

For my next album I'm just going to shout into a bottle for an hour, and quickly screw the lid on before my words are lost. It'll be a limited edition of one, and all you'll be able to do with it is gaze at it longingly, wondering whether to undo the lid or not.

if we're following this path of logic, how about a wax cylinder release?!

anyhow....the USB thing has unfortunately been done to death already. nine inch nails released most of the last album that way as well..

I have a kick-ass release Christopher Jion did on microcassette.  I had to buy a machine just to play it, and it was worth it.  I cleaned it up, EQ'd it and burned it to CD, and I wanted to put it up on HE!, but CJ said he would rather it remained an obscurely-formatted obscurity.  I respect the artist's wishes and all, but damn, it's good, and I guess you'll just have to trust me on that.  Find it if you can, it's called Weep.
