well, before all the details are worked out a few things need to be brought up;one thing that what will make this difficult will be figuring out who goes on what and when - how do we divide up all the tracks, and then distribute them fairly amongst a series of 7" without offending anybody?at what rate do we want to have these coming out? spacing is so very important...amount of artists per record and track length, 7"s are pretty damn short, for good quality you don't want to push over7-8 minutes(33rpm) per side, and it's cheaper to press at 45rpm - but then were looking at around 4-5minutes. 4 artists per record would be ideal in my opinion - but i;d like to hear what everybody else thinks. maybe rather than designate specific numbers of artists - we can divide it by track space and you pay for what time you use... this though, could very well have it's flawscolor or plain ol black - if we go the colored route, packaging will be quite simple, we can just sticker the vinyl sleeves... or we can still go with full graphic sleeves.and of course - a very important step is giving this series a title... my thinking cap is on..so anyway, it looks like for 400 records we could be looking at somewhere between 800-900 to get them done.. this is an estimate only. and this is based on the idea that everyone will be happy with the idea of four artists per record. this can change depending on what everybody thinks.i think all this needs to be well discussed before we even plan vol1 - we should maybeput that off til maybe febuary at the earliest.

agreed, it shouldn't be rushed. we've got time, but should keep the momentum going when we start shipping out the CDs sometime in Feb-March.

my thoughts on track length --- it should be adjusted according to what people are willing to pay -- $200 for 2 minutes seems steep, but $50 for 30 seconds of vinyl imfamy doesn't seem so bad to me. also, since it's only a 7" it shouldn't be too hard for Max to keep track of the artists/times/payments. it could be like one of those old grindcore metal comps that have 5 second songs and a full minute feels like an epic.

also, i personally wouldn't know what to do with 100 7"s, but if, say, i had 20 that would be manageable (20 records/30 seconds/$40).....

as for art --- if colored vinyl is affordable, i suggest we forget the sleeve and put the discs in clear vinyl bags w/ stickers.

lastly, as for who gets on --- with 10-20 or more spaces to fill i imagine there wouldn't be too much shoving.

perhaps the series could be called "Dry Heaves" and stick with the regurgitation motif.

...or not.

I like the idea of the short track option - I could be convinced to join that.

Doubt I'd be able to justify paying for the four artist version, but i don't think we should dismiss the idea (if people want to go with that option).

why not just go with 1 minute each - 8 or 10 tracks per record. ???
first in go on the 1st record, next batch on the next one. etc.

'dry heaves' is fuckin funny.

well, given that this is hoping to be a series of 7" - i think track length and the options can change from record to record, depending on what works best for the record being worked on at that time. once we have enough participants getting involved, i'll set up a thread giving the cost for 30 seconds of time and the particpants' desired lengths. figure we'll base payment on 30 seconds of time - fair?

once i get an idea of how many people want on the records and the lengths they are willing to pay for, we can figure out the best order to have them released. sound fair? - i think it would be better to have an idea of who is willing to buy 3 minutes(or what ever length)before we just jump to one minute each - cause that can be needlessly limiting.

i guess "dry heaves" it is. i've access to an amazing and genious graphic designer - but since this is a series, there will be plenty of room for each record to be designed by somebody else... and we can collectively even decide who designs which blah blah blah blah...

hay i would definently be onboard for this either to do art or tracks....i like the short block ideas....more people involved means we could press more which keeps the cost down.

i am currently working on getting a 7" pressed here in australia....i would wonder if the price/quality is comparable...??

im not on here a lot so someone keep me posted.

gu//??

How much will these blocks of time cost?  How soon do you need to know how many I want?  I'd like to participate if I can afford to.  It will depend a lot on how quickly you need the money.

well. i've been rather busy to gather all the propper information as of yet... none of what im posting here right now at this moment is set in stone - when i have an exact price i'll let you all know and then star ta seperate forum to keep track of who's buying how much time, which volume they will be on, and when each volume's deadline's will be. - this right here is just so people who are interested can get an aproximate idea of what they;d be looking at for prices.

$40= 30 sec (run of 500)

$52= 30 sec (run of 1000)

do not expect these prices to stay this way - they may go upo a bit - hopefully, if im right, they'll go down - and remember to run a 1000 it may cost a little over ten more dollars per 30sec - but you'll get twice the amount of copies for that little increase...

seems worth it to get the extra 500 though thats alot of records... on a similar note the amount sent to each participant should/shouldn't be related to amount paid...???

I was thinking that number of records should be payment related (as per time blocks), but harbour raises an interesting point - is it the time on the disk or the records you are buying into and how can the two factors be incorporated.

I'd suggest that pay per time = records per 30 sec block brought - just for ease of calculation. then if we want to trade disks on here that can be an individual to other person basis thingy.

anyother way is just gonna be a mess to organise - would wish that on Max or any one.

yeah, you get the amount that everyone gets - despite how much time you buy. just casue you're buying the time, not the amount of records - and no matter what you'll geta shitload really - if there's anywhere between 6-10 artists per record, you'll be getting no less than 100 records... which is alot. and there's no need for someguy who buys 5minutes to get an assload and the guy who could only afford 30 seconds to get what ever amount that would be... ??? i know this may not come off as fair to people buying more time - but it's the best way to go i think...

keith - yeah, i agree- doing the math would be a bitch and more than i want to handle...

is everyone cool with this?? if not, we can talk it all out....

Works for me - I have to really work to keep my tracks brief, so I stand to lose - but that much math is just a pain in the ass.
