Robo_stud, those are some very good questions, and honestly, I hadn't thought about them much.
1. For starters, there will only be 300 copies, not the originally planned 1000. I think the artists should have something to show for all this, i.e. at least a few copies of their own. For me to make back enough to put out my CD (about $500 US), on top of finally having this done and over, would be a wet fucking dream.
2. I personally think the name Dry Heaves should stay as a testament to this community's ability to overcome setbacks. I think it would go a long way toward clearing our name. But this is Digital Vomit; it's about the artists. If you all are now squicked by the name, I will defer to the consensus.
3. Again, this is just my personal opinion, but I think we should just leave Max' material out if we can't get a hold of it, and cut the record louder. I'd hate for this thing to get hung up all over again by soliciting more tracks. Rank is decent at sequencing comps. If he wants to re-sequence it for the sake of flow, I trust him.
I don't see how we can (or should) really filter who we let in here; we'll just have to be more careful about who we trust from now on, I guess. I had the idea of comp organizers fronting the money for pressing, and instead of charging the artists an entry fee, charge them a break-even price for however many copies they want. Not sure how that would work, or who could afford to do it, but it would keep the artists from getting screwed if for some reason the product didn't happen.
What 'chall think?

While I don't really want to comment on Dry Heaves, as all of it happened before I arrived on here (except to say I'm glad it looks as if it might finally be happening) I don't think the idea of asking comp organizers to pay for the cost upfront is going to solve anything. In fact, it's more likely that no-one would want to take something like that on in the first place. I'm sure you can do the maths on CBML 4 - personally, I wouldn't want to be ?800 or so down before anybody else put any cash in. And while you would get more people on board if they didn't have to cough up first, what's the chances that some of them only want about three copies when it comes to actually paying - leaving the organiser with a stack of CDs he'd just have to try and shift elsewhere?
Incidently, is the Dry Heaves debacle the reason why the lathe-cut 7" idea has died a death?

I believe the lathe-cut thing petered out because the guy who does them didn't return anybody's messages.

can someone please email me these details.
and big ups to mitch who is fronting the $$ to see this happen.
we are currently working out a plan so that each artists gets a couple of copies and mitch sees his money back.
we can do it.
as for the acetates....im still dead keen for this.
peter king is the man....but you have to call him on the phone....email doesnt cut it.
i have confidence that if we get a project together he will get the job done.

Hooray's in I think?
As for art, none of my business cos I'm not in on this project, but I think some fresh Rank-style art would be just the kick in the arse this version 2 release needs (:

no worries --- take your time --- we've learned to be patient with this release
i was just curious as to who needed to submit tracks so we can harass them into doing so --- but again, no worries.

Here is an excerpt from an email I just got from 7U?:
as far as making your money back...i think that we both can and should ....but it may take a little time...but im happy to keep up the distro of them out to whoever so long as costs are met for shipping ect....then deposit that as it arrives into you account.
i think it is awesome that you are willing to put this money up in the first place and that you should be repaid in full once the records are sold.
i think we should give 3-5 copies to each contributing artist....but they will need to cover shipping from australia.
at 5 copies each over 12 artists we would still be left with 240 copies to sell... so cost for each 7" would be about 5.80 each which i think is do-able.
so far i have...
