my personal philosophy is that after a fair amount of time ALL releases should become available as MP3s. but in the meantime (and in the interest of mitch making back his money) it should remain vinyl only.
...which reminds me --- i'm still trying to get mitch to host "the ottoman empire" and especially the original "can buy me love" on hallo excentrico. i was listening to cbml1 today and shit --- that's a damn good cd and should be heard by more people now that it's out of print. the problem of course is that me and the original co-founder of couch fort records had quite a falling out and he's holding the discs hostage.

Yeah, agreed, the Ottoman Empire and CBML1 are damn fine CDs, and should definitely get a wider audience.
If you ever do get CBML1 online, please can you swap out my distorted disc track for a new version made from the original wav. That'd make me very happy (:

James, Mitch, there is a way around this (Tims hostage situation).
basis of solutions is that Couch Fort/Tim only holds the production rights over the disk as a whole. he doesn't have ownership over the Tracks or exclusive rights to them? (doubtfull)
so if everyone Submits there tracks to you for a 'new compilation' (new artwork) not a lot he can do to stop it.

yeah, he just helped pay for the cds --- no ownership of tracks whatsoever.
getting everyone to re-submit is a nightmare i'm not willing to undergo, but it seems to me that he has no real recourse against us posting the m3s.

you might be best advised to drop the artwork, and possibly then names.
re the tracks send a blanket email, with were doing this say no now if you want your track removed (inverse of track re-submissions).
covers your butt nicely. other than that not a lot he can really do about it - except get upset.

Dual Plover still has some of these for sale, according to gemm.com, and they've been cool to us AFAIK. I finally got a hold of Tim and I'm working on something, too.

Erm... I've still got copies of CBML1, if that's what people are after. Sorry, I've not read this thread properly, so apologies if I've missed the point.

The point has wandered a bit *lol*. It was originally asked whether Dry Heaves would be released on MP3 eventually. Then Solypsis mentioned that he'd like for me to re-release the Couch Fort albums on HE! now that the Couch Fort site has gone dark. I did once, very briefly, until Tim objected because he hadn't sold out his stock yet. I started trying to find Tim. In the process, I searched GEMM for people who had CBML1 for sale, figuring I might find him that way. I did indeed, and I also found that Dual Plover had some in stock as well. Knowing that we have done business with DP in the past, I thought I'd plug them and maybe send a little biz their way. Anyway, Tim and I may be working something out. I don't want to jinx it by talking about it too much.
As for Dry Heaves on MP3, I hadn't actually thought that far ahead.... I would like first to see if there is a chance of this thing breaking even. Guy thinks we have a good shot at it. If that happens, or it becomes obvious that it won't, then I have no problems with an MP3 release. What do the other contributors think? It's your record too.

well i think it would be a good idea to release it as an mp3 eventually.....
there's really no rush in doing it. when everyone involved has sold/traded/given away their copies, then i think we should wait a while before releasing it.
i have the feeling that other people involved might disagree and want it to just be a rare and obscure vinyl......maybe im just making assumptions though.

no, i think we all agree that mitch should make his money and then it should be an mp3 free-for-all.
in my opinion everything should be stolen. except when it involves my friends making money

i agree with james, the releases should be made available as mp3's once the physical copies have sold out.
i mean really, i bet if i jump on soulseek tonight its already up there.
as for his dilemma with the releases he did with couchfort i think same should apply, are there physical copies still to sell...???
but again im happy to see my tracks from those up online, but yeah not the "mastered" version.
i know i still have copies of CBML2.
gu///?
