It could suck buffalo ass, and I would still be tickled pink to share a CD with G?udjiparl.  I sent him a copy of Dry Heaves, BTW.

If you insist...

Disc 1

1) An unnerving introduction from Subsonika, along the lines of Angelo Badalamenti circa Mulholland Drive if he'd had pitched everything up a bit. Sounds a bit like the end of the world.
2) 14 seconds of Radio 3, Billie Jean and *that* horn.
3) A hardcore stomper paying tribute to some Danish street if I remember correctly. Super fast gabber kicks and hihats ahoy.
4) The first of four attacks on general MIDI from Patrick May, often descending into atonality and utter nonsense.
5) This is truly the sound of Irish breakcore. Jarring beats are layered over the top of a delightful Irish jig. And Chesney Hawkes.
6) First of three chip-noise tracks from Uncivilized; this one also utilises a classic funk break and an even-more classic showtune.
7) Despite a name in tribute to Toecutter, this track does what hardoff does best - confronts us with the harsh reality of zoophilia. Contains samples from *that* Channel 4 docu.
8) A posthumous tribute to Anna-Nicole Smith... submitted two weeks BEFORE her death. Maybe ROBOstud's been having words with the man upstairs...
9) First of four tracks from Keith Hic, this one from what seems to be his main alias Shanks Pony. Follows on nicely from the previous track and takes something of a glitch-hop direction.
10) Another tribute track, this time to Lethal Weapon 2. More grinding guitars and heavy electronic beats and blips that CATB fans have long come to expect.
11) We couldn't get Cock ESP or Baron Bum Blood, so... probably the noisiest track on the album, and yet perversely also one of the most soothing at times.
12) Spanish folk-core, gentlemen. Could have been better produced, but you get the idea. It's got some killer chipmonk-rapping too.
13) YES YES YES. Four tracks of medical-emergency based grindcore that sees the red bar in Sound Forge, then breaks its fucking neck. Track 2 - Surgical Chav Hammer - is the stand out, with an amazing sample from BBC1's 999 and two killer riffs from CATB.
14) Something a bit calmer from Patrick now, with his longest contribution being a tribute to someone called Alexander. If I see him in London, I will ask...
15) This has been something of a grower on me, but I am now a full convert of iivix's vocal stylings, here paying homage to life in the nu-1980s. Great electro production as always.
16) Previously released on Top 40, this is probably one of Guy's more breakcore-ish tracks overall. This is the first of three contributions from Mr Sterling.
17) More glitch-hop, this time from Khonnor. Some great production on this track, and a lot of ideas squashed into 2:22.
18) Keith's second track - an 8 second outtake from a gig. Nothing more to be said, except it introduces the next track quite nicely...
19) With the possible exception of Charming Pervert, this is Solypsis' best track to date - a noisy, hectic stomper of a glitch track.
20) Formerly a tribute to Steve Irwin, this is a rather unsettling track that really throws you in at the low-end, so to speak. Ironically I imagine purgatory probably sounds like this. If it existed, obviously.
21) Previously I compared this to CATB, but with hindsight I was very very wrong. This is some of the harshest glitch stuff I've heard since Gantz Graf, no doubt. All about the drums here.
22) Fans of the Ghost Box will like this - the previously missing soundtrack from a 1970s educational programme.
23) One of my favourites here - a NiN-style post-apocalyptic industrial grind. I can see the goths dancing to it already. (incidentally, I notice mbid.com mentions "Digital Vomit 2007" in its header. Does this mean we will be seeing a full-length release any time soon? I hope so)
24) Eno-esque ambience here - a very desolate, lonely track. Probably what you'd hear following the news of a recent family death.
25) Erm... I put a Westlife track through GranuLab. It sounds fucking rotten.
26) I'm guessing this is something of a tribute to John Cage given the name. Contains: "homemade sub-contrabass clarinet, rainstick, breaking plates". Really quite pleasant.
27) I've said it before, and I'll say it again - it's The Caretaker frying eggs.
28) I Know What Happens Next was already a wonderful track, incorporating glitch and ambience with some wonderful melodies, so when I say that this remix contains an extra sitar track, know that this is an absolutely amazing track, and a great disc-finisher.

Disc Two:

1) A friend of Goodiepal's wakes everybody up. With some GranuLab assistance, natch.
2) Charlotte Church introduces the disc properly, before BIA gets his glowsticks out and mashes up some of the worst in house and techno.
3) More from Uncivilized, with a much bigger emphasis on the chip-tune here. Sounds like a particularly tough level of Super Mario.
4) Keith's third track - a post-rock guitar drone, with some very subtle vocals from Mr Hic himself thrown into the mix.
5) When a band like Pistol Disco cover a song by a band like The Cramps, you just know it's going to be messy. Thankfully, amongst the mess is one of the album's best tracks. Great to have something not done on a computer as well, just for a change.
6) DJ Pablo Supastar transforms into a guitar-wielding glitch-merchant, making some serious noise along with the most difficultly-pronounced tracktitles of the whole album.
7) The sample material's obvious, but infront of it lies some seriously fast and hard breaks. For an 18 year old, this ain't half bad.
8) Guy's second track is a tribute to Al Corrupt, and yet he manages to write something here that sounds nothing like Al at all. Not necessarily a bad thing; certainly a noisy thing.
9) Probably Patrick's most bizarre contribution here, loads of clashing notes and peculiar melodies in the mix here. Cuts very suddenly into...
10) Fuck yeah! 72 seconds of Japanese heavy metal-breakcore. Napalm Death WISH they sounded this hardcore.
11) Another soundscape like Brass Monkey's disc 1 track, this time however with the entire sample-set being taken from an electronic fart-noise generating machine. Hilarious.
12) Solypsis' one-eyed pot-smoking friend discusses the beaver, accompanied by a very Cure-sounding backdrop. Genius in it's simplicity.
13) A bonus Keith Hic track here, as he remixes one of ROBOstud's in a very uncomfortable glitch track that sounds like it was recorded in a swimming pool. Jansky Noise disappeared when I was making this CD, but I think this track just about makes up for that loss.
14) His longest track yet here, with the focus shifted back onto serious digital noise and extensive sampling. WARNING - contains Little Britain. You're advised to cover your ears during those bits though. Make sure you keep them clear for the Bananaman sample though.
15) Largely overlooked whilst making and compiling this album by myself, this is actually a brilliant track. Takes a while to get going, but it's just as good as anything Datarapist has ever done.
16) Patrick May's brother gets drunk with his friends, and makes something truly unique in the process. A Marmite track if ever there was one.
17) Perhaps mroe grime-influenced than his CBML3 track, he's still proving to have some excellent production skills, mixing fantastic drum production with some killer basslines.
18) An utterly bizarre soundscape here from the Parl, blending some utterly fucked strings with his own unique vocals. Like everything else he's ever done, it's completely different to everything else he's ever done, so it's very difficult for me to say if this will appeal to fans.
19) More great breakcore production here, this time with some Slim Shady thrown into the mix. Rude-Ass Tinker wishes he sounded this good.
20) dj YSL's noisiest track yet methinks. No sight of rhythm or drums here, just some utterly fucked scratching. And it sounds great.
21) I'm guessing this is hardoff's entry into Shitmat's Hang The DJ competition, based on the amount of samples thrown about here. Includes Video Kids and Les Claypool amongst many many others.
22) Another of his more gentle tracks here, at least until the final note. Hopefully he'll be on board for Keith's kids CD thing - he'd be a great addition to that release I reckon.
23) Absolute genius here - an infomercial for his recent Wrong Music album, featuring a genuine BBC radio presenter. More about this track can be found in the big work in progress thread in this forum.
24) Keith's final track - a post-rock crescendo that tantalisingly gets cut short before climaxing.
25) Drone "action" from a man normally associated with doing some hard industrial stuff. Excellent use of the TR-909 cowbell.
26) This is what this series is all about - ANE has never written a track before, and this is his first ever attempt at such a composition. And it's being released into the ether for you all. Whether you like it or not, this exactly what this label should be encouraging - people taking a risk and entering into unknown territory.
27) Oh shit, Swerve's got a Casio keyboard! And he's making it clip! Sounds, in his own words, "incredibly gay".
28) Transformed from a lost soundtrack from Camberwick Green (listen to Love Is Dead for this version) into the kind of thing you'd expect to hear at the end of an episode of some Japanese anime. A great finisher. But I couldn't let him finish off a compilation AGAIN, so I had to get a special guest...
29) The mysterious Con Guage pays homage to this series' almost-namesake in fine style, utterly destroying what is generally considered one of the all-time great pop songs into total sludge. In his/her/its words - "vomit it is". Right, this party's crap, let's go somewhere else before the booze runs out and the ****s have gone.

awesome, in-depth review there, lee! now it sucks twice as much having to wait....

incidentally,  me and my friend chad (the idiots behind My Boy Is Dead) are planning on meeting up sometime this year and recording for a week straight (he lives on the opposite end of the country). hopefully the fruits of our intoxicated labour will yield a full length INDUSTRIAL ROCK GOD album.

by the way lee, i dont want to jump the gun here since i haven't heard back from alien hand or audible axis yet. but i dont think the 'all of our discs getting sent to one location' thing is going to happen........and besides, its nice to have your own box.

i'll let you know if i hear any different from them. are we talking about weeks or months before you send them to us anyway?

nice review. looks like it sounds great...

and glad to hear i'm not the only one not using computers on the tracks...

Looking forward to seeing what tracks i put on it and what artists relate to some of the commnets you made as

1) i've forgotten what submitted, and what they sound like (although the Jansky Noise comparison is an honour).

2) don't have a Track listing listing (guessing there is one in the pictures of the CD, but can;t see that here.)

>Hopefully he'll be on board for Keith's kids CD thing - he'd be a great addition to that release I reckon.

So who ever this is talking about, if you're not doing a track for the Kiddies music CD, consider your self requsted to join in.

(and every one else, who hasn't sent me one yet, I'm still excepting submission - don't make me name names...)

well, i have to say now i have heard the whole thing that this is probably the strongest CBML so far just off the back of disk one, which could have been a stand alone release by itself!

Don't hate me for saying the c word, but this is probably the most commercial (yes, you read that right) CBML so far - Commercial in the sense that it looks and sounds so great and that people won't struggle to sell them for once!

Loving the Alien Hand track and that Russ And Ray song about beavers. The Patrick May interludes work pretty well too. Disk two is less to my personal taste as i don't really "do noise" or the V/Vm thing as much as some of you guys do but it's at least on a par with CBML3, if not better, in my uninformed opinion.

I think I said that CBML would be in Rough Trade Covent Garden. Make that Brick Lane.
Covent Garden store moved last month. New one is much nicer, and you can swing a cat in it.

The staff cooed all over the baby picture... so that's a review of sorts!

Maybe it would be worth doing what Goodiepal's done, i.e. offer the MySpace username and password out publically, and let others change it as they see fit. The Goodiepal one's worked really well so far, so maybe it's something worth considering. Open-source MySpace?

It is probably best to share it with a few more people in private if anyone wants it. I really wish i had more time to look after it myself but unfortunately i am quite restricted with internet access at the moment.

Seriously, if anyone else fancies being a part time DV myspace page secretary then by all means let me know.

Hi all, I'm a non-DV (in that I haven't done anything) friend of Adam, Doug, Staff and Lee.  Just got a copy of CBML4 through the post from Doug, and its a wonderful looking CD, just incredibly good looking.  Haven't had a chance to listen yet (although I've already heard Massive Hospitalisation in a pub a bout 6 months ago and my ears are stil bleeding), but really wanted to mention the packaging.  One of the best things I've seen in a long time.  Good work.  Good luck in promoting it.

I also need to buy one of those t-shirts from him when I get some more #?

Actually I meant one of his video-themes t-shirts. He does ones with the LaserDisc and BetaMax logos on, for instance.

The idea of t-shirts is something we've discussed before, re: Victim de Mode. I'd definetely support and maybe even buy one, but I wouldn't like to take charge of such a project.

There's nothing to stop one of us setting up a shop at Cafe Press like Chris Moss Acid did (see here) and getting them to do all the donkey work for us.

As long as we can agree on what we want there in the first place (you can have mugs and G-strings as well, by the look of it) I reckon that would be the easiest solution. I'm quite willing to set the whole thing up and keep an eye on it.

Any cash made from it could possibly go into keeping this forum going (any other suggestions welcome)

scott would be an ideal candidate for designing our shirts, i just wouldn't want to overlook Guy in this department.

i'll ask scott to sketch up some designs, though, if he's willing.

the problem with cafe press (unless they've changed in the last year or so) is they only sell white shirts, they keep a grotesquely disproportionate amount of the sales fees and you can't see a finished design until you've paid for it (i.e. how big the image is, etc). they are pretty damned inflexible in terms of variety of images --- you get one image of one size right smack in the middle of a white t-shirt.

plus, i'd much rather support one of our artist friends rather than a large established company.
