jeez.... i just realized i've created about an album's worth of material in the last week....and it's the best shit i've made in years. perhaps i need to get the hell off the internet....
Hah! Now there's an idea! Take half a dozen DV artists, stick them in a cabin in the woods with no phones, radio, TV or internet access, they can't leave before they each make an album, collabs are encouraged, and make a reality show of the whole thing. Bamf! Who would try to kill whom? *evil grin*

Actually, this is an excellent idea, lock us all in a cabin for a weekend, especially if there was a film crew to capture it all... And lots of beer... Who's ever done this before? No one that I know of.

due to my tendency to have epileptic fits at the worst possible times, a phone is a somewhat essential item for me.
i can do without everything else though.

I used to lock my self away for a few days at a time to do recording - works wonders (hence the back calalogue which is only now starting to see the light of day (and cmbl)).
can#t do that so easy these days. but worth forcing your self not to internet for a bit.

Had a banging dancefloor choon from Datarapist today. Seriously - this guy's got skills. If Vex'd can get an album on Planet Mu, fuck knows why Ben can't with this sort of stuff.
PS. I'm told that Little Frank (Frank Sidebottom's 2D puppet companion) is on the case with a track.

Tracks in from Guy today... and I might have Gaeoudjiparl's track in now. Possibly. If he doesn't send me anything else, he's asked me to take a segment from the radio show currently online over at the V/Vm site and forum (cheers Hardoff - knew it'd come in handy) and use that.

Had tracks in from Brass Monkey today. Again, perhaps a more restrained offering than what one might expect from such a compilation as Can Buy Me Love - Imaginary Soundscape being exactly that - a soundscape recording of a strange world that has never existed, and the Fart one being a collection of heavily-manipulated fart sounds, recorded from a Poundland-purchased fart-machine. Lovely stuff.

Very sadly, Wyatt Gurp has pulled out. This means there is now definetely 1 slot open. 2 if we include Max. 3 if we include Teppop, who won't be able to contribute until the middle of March.

Had Big In Albania's slot in today - a top drawer cut-up/mashup of chav-tacular proportions, with possibly the worst intro in dance music history, courtesy of untalented Welsh tosser Charlotte Church. I blame Jonathon Ross.
I might open one of the discs with this track actually...

Money from The Fez! and music from Massive Hospitalisation today. From the latter, four heavy duty TV medical-themed programming-based tracks in 186 seconds. But they've not paid yet.

As well as money from MH, today I also woke up to find a track and money from Alien Hand - another awesome slice of breakcore/gabber with some lovely trad-folk samples spliced in the middle.
FYI, I'm currently working on a kazoo-based track.

Money tracks so far today from Cats Against The Bomb and Audible Axis. CATB pays tribute to Lethal Weapon 2 in style, while Audible Axis provides some fine IDM material.

The sweeping melodies of Eno, blended with the migrane-enducing noise of Merzbow. Stuntcock's fine contribution there.
Material from Peter Z on the way...

I wasn't wrong - 14 in total. One to a load of people supposedly sending stuff in the next day or two, one to Gaeoudjiparl about his track, and one to everyone else who hasn't said a single word. That leaves two people - Wet Nurse, who I don't have an email for, and will contact by other means tomorrow, and me. I'm special, so I get longer. Nyerr.

My good friend Robin Cunt and his brother should be helping out with a slot soon... Also, a little spanner in the works - the shipping to the UK's turned out to be a lot more than expected. I should be OK, but it might mean a few people will have delays in getting their discs back. Hopefully not though.

Just received the Twocsinak/DJ Sarah Wilson contribution... it's truly astounding. It's essentially an infomercial for his new album on Wrong Music, read by an apparently slightly confused BBC Radio Bristol DJ live on air, layered on top of samples from the album and more. Here's a transcript:
Hello, and welcome to another edition of 'Fine Tuned', with your host Kate Salisbury. This week, a strange letter from a young man called Joseph. He writes:
"Dear Kate,
I am writing to you to ask for some help. Some time ago I received an email from a chap called Lee Ashcroft, for whose album as Mixomatosis, 'Very Unprofessional', I contributed a remix. He asked if I'd like to take part in a compilation called 'Can Buy Me Love'. I agreed and intended to create something genuinely good and musical, but all I managed was an aborted cut-up of Lily Allen and half a song with a terrible guitar solo, which I'm probably going to edit out. I was talking about the project with my flatmate Sam, who is also known as SJ Esau, and he came up with a great idea. "Why don't you just make an advert?" he said. This is where you come in Kate.
A CD of mine was released earlier this year by Wrong Music under the pseudonyms of Twocsinak and DJ Sarah Wilson called 'Jesus is a brave little toaster volume 1: Take nothing but footprints, leave nothing but photographs'. I would like you to make me an infomercial for it. It features reimaginings of material by local favourites Steveless, Onanist Homework Robot & the Guano Ignoramus, Gravehurst, My Ambulance Is On Fire, Hunting Lodge, Freeze Puppy, Team Brick, Rarg, War Against Sleep, I Know I Have No Collar, SJ Esau, Big Joan, Asteroth, Dyslogic, James Scatter, Knowledge Of Bugs, Landslide Purist, Jess Marlowe of (indecipherable word) and Tatsky, whose name I misspelt on the sleeve with an I, rather than a Y. Team Brick and SJ Esau both repayed the favour by covering songs of mine, alongside my university pal and video director Russell. On one track Dan Bennett from Hunting Lodge provides a bespoked guitar part to a specially written vocal by Rasha Shaheen. There's also blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameos from members of Boredoms and Lightning Bolt, plus the lead singer of 90s indie sensation Strangelove. Internationally renowned sound artist and double world-record holder Janek Schaefer has a shave, my family do a cover version of Bjork, and I pay homage to my heroes Matmos, with a remix of 'A Run Out Groove'. Other sonic delights you might encounter beneath the lovingly written brown card cover, are elastic band-balls, yo-yo instructors, general MIDI, a packet of Love Hearts, irate cafe workers, no-input electronics, gunshots, corrupted sound files, fridge-freezers, a gramophone record of 78 RPM test-tones that was later destroyed by DJ Ed Seebert (?), and a random audience member sight-reading on the piano. Tracks from the album have been played on BBC Radio One, as well as the last episode of 'Mixing It' on Radio Three.
So Kate, what I would like you to do, if you are willing, is to record yourself reading out this message. Could you include an introduction as well, along the lines of "Hello, and welcome to another edition of 'Fine Tuned', with your host Kate Salisbury. This week, a strange letter from a young man called Joseph. He writes..." Please make sure to read out everything I have written, including all of the parts which refer to how you should read it out, and the postscript. It will be very postmodern. Just record your voice on its own, and I will provide a backing track made from recordings of the artists, and the music I refer to. It would be great if you could also provide me with the Fine Tuned jingle, but if not, I can take it from the internet stream of the show.
Thank you very much for your time and help Kate, I hope to see you soon, for you are truly the third shortest person I know, and I am the fifth tallest.
Yours hopefully,
Joseph Howard Grounds
PS. You could also say something at the end of reading out the message like "Well Joseph, I'll see what I can do." That would be really nice of you."
Well Joseph, I'll see what I can do.
God, I so want to put this online so you can all hear it. But no, I'm leaving it until the release. But I have to say its truly head-fucking experimental tracks like this, along with the likes of, say, Hooray's or V/Vm's or Brass Monkey's, that make these compilations really special. Not wishing to detract from the awesome efforts of everyone involved of course, but its the ones like this that really make it a truly unique series.
Oh yeah, I'm now working on getting some new contributors on board, as the response from the people who missed the deadline has been, bar a few exceptions like the one above, pitiful.
