Hello. So I've got an idea for a new collaborative project. It's called Voices for now, because that's what it's all about.Basically, the process is: Person A records something using their voice. And person B takes that recording and uses it to make their own track.Person A's voice recording could be a song (or part of a song), some beatboxing, some spoken word piece, James Brown grunts, whatever. The only condition is that it has to be voice only (no backing or instrumentation). And it should be recorded fairly dry, to allow the second person to add effects or process it however they want.Person B might choose to just use the original vocal sample to form the whole tune somehow, or they might treat it more like a bit of production work, and write a "traditional" backing track to form a song.I don't know what form this project will ultima
This sounds interesting to me - considering I am a poet (See work in DIH). I would love to see what some other people who do with my voice. I can really remember what Keith Hicc did with my voice years ago under the name off 'Drive' - that was fun, but mad!

nice idea.
it's should be interesting to see how different people will reinterprate this (both the voice samples, and the rules).
count me in to rework something.
Personlly i like trying to make rythmic stuff using voices (as andy says, all of the early DIH stuff was me processing andys voice, no other instrumention).
as for a vocal from me: please use the Soto Voce track from CBML4 (i'm sure you have a copy).
i'll see if any of others at home want to add vocals (Tara is normally up for hearing her voice reworked).

Oooh this does sound interesting and fun, I'd like to have a go at both. Robostud uses his voice in quite a few of his tracks, I reckon he'd be good for this too.

Hey, crap voices are good too (: I'll put myself down as voice provider to prove I mean that (:
I'm not setting a limit on people at this stage - let's just see how many people wanna do it, and we'll work out how to organise the finished product later.

Well - I have two spoken word album available for download on my spoken word net label 'Setting Sun' - the links are here if anybody wants to have a go with these....

All I ask if anybody wants to tackle them - let me know as I would love to hear the end result. Keith - why don't you submit one or two of your 'Drive' tracks off my vocals too?

I love to sing-a, about the moon-a and the June-a and the spring-a.... I'm a fair-to-middling beat-boxer too. I've thought about doing some Bobby McFerrin-type multi-track a cappella stuff. I've also thought about having a go at some spoken-word stuff with Keith and them. Anyway, I'd like to do something for this, but I won't make any promises because I'm busier than a three-peckered billy-goat as it is.
I'm punch-drunk from lack of sleep. I shut up now.

How I see this working is that when people get their voice recordings done, they upload them somewhere, provide a link to it in this thread (I'll update the top post), and then everyone else can download it to use for a track. (Or not, if they don't want to (: )
So what I'd suggest is that we all either upload our voice tracks to a) our own web spaces if we have them, or b) upload to http://www.megaupload.com/, or c) take Mighty Sucks Ass on his generous offer to host it for you and provide a link (:
As for finished tunes, I'm not sure how that'll work yet. I reckon if you want everyone to hear your tune straight away (and let me download it to compile the album type thing), then upload it and provide a link as above. Or if you'd rather keep it secret until the finished product is revealed, then use http://dropsend.com or similar to email your track to me at hirekatsu [a] gmail dotted com.
Hope that makes sense...
Now, get singing/beatboxing/rapping/screaming (:
