I know I have been talking about Taking on robo's idea and leading the pass it on project (and I still plan too), but I haven't quite decided some of the rules that we need to make it work. But in the mean time (considering Mitch has just brought the "drive-by" remix project to a close) the idea that came to me over the weekend should be a bit of fun. Many of you know that UKdragon and I have a little girl Cyan. She's now 19 months old and loads of fun. On Saturday we had on a CD of kiddies songs which she loves, jumping and dancing around like a loon. One track I heard I though would make an interesting remix project, and then the idea struck - get you guys to write a children's album. OK I know there are a few music for kids and adults CD (nursery storeys in punk style etc), but I thought not much in the electronica genre (apart from stuff like Raymond Scott, which is too expensive) and none that in know of in the end of the sound that resides here (digi vom). (also I know a few people here have done remixes of kiddies tracks and TV programs (my bob the builder remix and Pigdn's lazytown stuff). So the challenge: either write a song/tune for Children (suggest 2-5 age group) or remix a kiddies song / nursery rime / or children's TV programme Only rule that I am stipulating (and will test) is that the track is suitable for playing to children. - I want Cyan and Tara to enjoy listening to the CD and for it not to be blatantly rude (or otherwise offensive).Email me: keithhic at gmail dot com

well, i have been doing more chilled-out stuff recently. but it might be interesting to try and do something light hearted. i think if im in on this i might use a different name though, i dont want kids to be jumping around singing 'we love robostud!'

Hey, I already have a good track for this... A few years back I made a kinda big-beat-lite tune from Maisy Mouse samples... I'll MP3 it asap. (:

Emailed you my track Keith. It's called "What a Terrible Noise!"

If I was doing this project again from scratch I think I'd steer away from breaky beats and cut-up samples and move more towards four-four with some sort of kid-friendly melody.

Also, kids or no kids, I'd love to hear DigiVom remix Raffi songs ("Ring ring ring ring, Bananaphone! Bananaphone!")

I know what I'll do for this:  I've been meaning to raid my 90's acoustic demos for an HE! release, and among them is, believe it or not, a cover of "Naughty Number Nine" from Schoolhouse Rock.  I always introduced it live as the one blues song my spoiled white butt felt comfortable doing.  I once got tipped a $20 while doing it by a man who looked suspiciously like Bob Dorough.  I know he was on tour at the time....

in my old band we had a song which young children all seemed to love, its been christened the woo woo song by a few children, i'll try and dig it out, or failing that re-record it.

I will see what I can do. I fancy doing something with bells.

Presuming this is to be a DigiVom-released product, what form will it take? CD? MP3? Tape? Vinyl? Etc?

This should totally be a Digital Vomit release - it's exactly the kind of leftfield idea we should be aiming at (:

I spoke to Keith last night, and he said it would either be an MP3 collection or a CD-R. Depends on his finances. And I think it'll also be a DigiVom release too, if I remember correctly. DVR016 I reckon? I really need to keep track of the codes I've given out.

DVR015 actually. Must keep track...

Emailing my contribution to you now Keith. The super-fast response is thanks to a combination of having a fairly decent idea, which didn't take very long to do at all. Just the way I like it.

OK, I've left this a little while to see what peoples thoughts and reaction would be, and I've been amazed with the possessiveness).

Format: For starters I'm just thinking about mp3 and CDR (with artwork - we already have an idea), but we'll see how it goes. I don't want any one to be (or feel) excluded, but also I do not to limit the possibilities of this project.

Release Label. Defiantly think this should have a DV reference (thanks for the number Lee). But I'm also thinking we should take this to a wider input selection than just us.

It should be fun to do and more importantly fun to hear. The more people and more styles covered the better (IMHO). SO spread the word.

With this in mind I am planning on posting a invite at the Planet Mu and CRD forums in the next week, but am also planning to make DV (if not specifically this thread) the main home for information and control of this project.

Deadline / Timescale: not set it yet, but know what it's like over the summer so am thinking end of September (so that it will be all done ready for Cyan's second birthday).

We should get a Patrick May track on this. Robin played me some of his stuff at Bloc and there's some really nice melodies going on in there.

I was speaking to Keith about this the other day, and I am going to do it - Have being doing some poetry designed for a kids's reading at a similar sort of age, does anybody fancy doing a backing tune to it if I submit them the vocals as I really do not sure how to go with the music for it... Otherwise, it'll probably be DIH (Spoken word) just for a change.

boki, you have time (I've not done my track for it yet). Deadline is end Sept, but this could run for a long time if people find the challange interesting (Vol 2?)

I've had 8 tracks in so far, but hope to get more (so get them in).

I'll put a list of current contributers tomorrow.

hi keithhic, just wondering if you are still taking tracks for this or not, i like the idea, and though i don't have a clue what kind of music young kids get a kick out of, i remembered something i made ages ago that might work.

Macalla, yeah I am still taking submissions so send it on in.

the dealine for this is beinging of oct, just so I can make up a cd of the tracks for Cyan's 2nd birthday.

But in truth i'd like the idea to continue to run beyond this one, maybe changing as she grows. i.e. music for todlers, music for pre-school/primary school (more of learning song vein), etc.

Oh yeah, and while i'm at it BOKI, get your track finished.
